2023 Thanksgiving Recap

Sunday, November 26, 2023

I hope everyone had a beautiful and happy Thanksgiving. We spent our holiday week at home in Savannah. My family lives here, but we were also lucky enough to have my husband's side of the family come and stay with us.

We started the day pet sitting for some friends and going on a little walk. After that we went to my grandparent's house for a big Thanksgiving lunch. I wore this old Zara dress that I shortened. That evening, after the big meal, we went to a friend's house for game night.

I didn't take a picture, but my husband and I were in charge of dessert so we made (all gluten free) pumpkin pie, lemonade pie, cheesecake, and joy-free cookies. They were sugar cookies that I called joy-free because they were nut free, soy free, dairy free, and gluten free.

The next morning we went to Waffle House for breakfast. I always order the same thing: coffee, a side of scrambled eggs with cheese, and a side of either sausage or bacon. We are not a Black Friday shopping family, but I did look at the sales online and was un-impressed. I saw tons of items "marked down" that were no cheaper than a few weeks ago when I originally bookmarked them.

After breakfast, our families went to Oatland Island Wildlife Center and met up with one of my friends to walk around and see the animals. If anyone is looking for a fantastic family-friendly way to spend the day, Oatland Island is one of my top recommendations. Their main building was built in 1927 and stunning to look at. On their grounds, they have lots of animals including wolves and cougars.

When we finished walking at Oatland Island, we went downtown for coffee at Mirabelle's and to see some bookstores. My favorite order to get there is a lavender and vanilla latte with a side of bacon.

Saturday was our last full day with family so we started the day at the Forsyth Farmer's Market. In addition to the farmer's market, there are usually a ton of local artists. We also visited Brighter Day to get some groceries.

In the afternoon we grilled out with everyone. The original plan was to grill oysters, however Savannah seemed to be having an oyster shortage, so instead we grilled Savannah Sausage (by the way, this is one of my favorite proteins for lunch/dinner) and burgers.

We ended our day on Tybee where they were having a local market and tree lighting. The water was beautiful in the evening. After that we played D&D with some friends.

We had such a blessed Thanksgiving week with our family and friends, thank you all for reading along.
